From my perspective, the added benefit with your work is that you think forward about how what you are doing now will work with -or not- with other parts of the build. Nice write-up.
On those roof panel joins, you used a stitch weld; is that right? If so, did you knock back the settings to prevent holes and warping or just increase the speed across the panel?

At least you know what the issue is now. That conrod looks like it has gotten very hot at one time (just under the gudgeon pin). Wonder if the pin has grabbed at some stage, off-setting the piston and causing the heat as it struggled.
