I use a wet micro fibre mitten and wipe off with a hand towel. Have been using this method for years and don't get any scratches.

Once again you missed what I said. Read the sentence before. It has a 6 cyl coupe VIN, so the original car must have been fairly badly damaged to warrant that amount of work. With a 69 stripe kit it doesn't much resemble a 70 Boss 302.

A film of brake fluid stops belts screaming normally. Don't know if this works on toothed belts. But anyway ... don't put too much on as if it spins off onto the paint, it will damage it.
