Just finished removing the paint from tops of the engine bay and I thought that a San Jose car only had one VIN stamped into the fender apron, but my car has two stampings of the vin on the driver side apron and one on the passenger side, is this typical?
(Passenger side)
(Driver side)

Re: Vin numbers??
I don't know about any differences with San Jose cars compared to the other plants, but I've always seen both front guards stamped (if original panels). I expect San Jose would be the same as Dearborn and Metuchen?

Not sure if it is typical or not, but my 65 does as well.
Re: Vin numbers??
Ok thats good it seems that the aprons are original then, thanks.

Lucky that they took their time and stamped the drivers side without any shadows.
Re: VIN stamping on early Mustangs
All Mustangs (actually all Ford cars) were stamped in 3 places up to the end of the 67 model year. 68 & later it was 2 places (sometimes 3) + the VIN tag on the dash.
You can see the "ghosting" at the start of the number/letter sequence that is double stamped.
BTW, describe the side of the car as right or left. Not driver or passenger (or near & off side) as the American dealers do not understand that terminology.
It is also confusing to us as we do not know if your car is RHD or LHD. ......

So Kerry I was aware that the VIN was on both fender aprons, one concealed the other exposed, but where is the 3rd on a 65/66 car?
