simple electric washer conversion for 1967's

Post by 67fastysm »

I didnt like the old bellows setup for washing the windscreen but i also didn't want to cut up the dash and put in and aftermarket switch so i had a think about a solution as there was nothing on the net.
Now some of you may have already come up with this idea so not trying to steal thunder just get it out to help others .
1 - you need your orginal foot pump/sw
2 - the switch mech that is on it must be in working order
3 - need to make a trip to supercheap and buy a small universal washer pump about $15 and the important item the switch which is to used to make it all work the plu no is 120389
Image
4 - firstly remove the old bellows
i am assuming you have removed the pump/switch from your car
Image
4 - once the bellows is removed there is a hole aprox 16 mm in dia
5 - the hole will need a bit of filing to be able to fit the sw above once in its adjustable so set your height so that when you press down on the lever it makes contact with the rubber boot and closes the circuit.
6 - you need to run a wire from your acc side of your ignition sw to one side of the newly installed switch then run a wire from the sw out into engine bay which will be the feed to washer motor.
7 - Now as i was saying before the existing double pole sw on the bracket must be in working order as well as the existing wiring from it to the wiper motor and sw in the dash .
8 - fit your washer pump in engine bay and wire in
Image
9 - once done its ready to test ! if its all correct this setup allows you to retain your original look but squirts water to your screen until your stop but even better by retaining the other sw it makes your wipers work and then return to the park postion as soon as you lift your foot off the sw.
cheers hopes hope this makes sense

Tech Article done.

If you have a pic of the mechanism with the new switch fitted, that would be a great addition.
