Making GRIFF's 65 hardtop fit him .......

Post by ozbilt »

Small job, the car needed a front LH floor pan welded in place & while there it was decided to make the car fit GRIFF.

Cut out the seat risers & lowered them 1 1/2" (38mm). While I had them out, I cut the centers out (same as the 64 1/2 pans), that way the sound deadener can go direct on the floor & only the carpet is under the seat. That allows them to be as low as possible in this configuration.

The forward seat nut locating holes for the LH seat have been made the same size as the rear shock absorber holes in the taransition panel so we can fit the same oval shaped grommets. GRIFF has already made the Ford conversion for moving the seat runners back. Now access to the front mounts is easier & still looks "factory' .....

Neat job Oz
I want a swaging tool " chucks tantrum in front of the missus"

I didnt know the 64 1/2 had those cut outs in the seat risers, very handy for accessories. Why did they change it?

Last I saw of GRIFF he was driving out of Duggo, in his 65, with a smile on his face. Misses the roof rail when exiting by around an inch .....

did you put the 'riser' back flat on the floor? Could use something like that myself.
Will check with JBB to see if he is free to weld the holes I blow in the sheet during the repair.

yes Oz and the smile only got bigger. the car feels entirely different to drive, the steering wheel to lap clearance is way more comfortable and I kind of got used to slouching in my seat to not look like such a tall-ass and look centrally thru the windscreen that now I can sit up real straight and it feels like I'm driving a sports car ha! it really does make a massive difference. even getting out of the car I don't have to bend to avoid the top sill. I'm 6'2" and can't recommend this mod more highly to anyone who was told as a child to grow up, literally. with the seat rail mod I did a year or so for the extra legroom it all works well. I'm also going to fit a dead pedal for that bit more left leg comfort on highway trips.
cage this mod is definitely for you buddy!!
again thanks Oz for your excellent workmanship.

that was the original plan Boof but we figured with my napper sticking up thru the hole it would've looked like a mustang with a bloody big red beacon on top!

Cage's has already been done in a similar fashion. Mine is the same as this one, but both with seats out of a Datto.
