Fixing rubber seals (door / boot etc...)

Post by Nick68 »

I am guessing that the rubber seals for the boot and doors are glued in place - as there seems no other way of fixing them in place.

What glue do I use for this - just ordinary contact cement?

Are there any tricks.

Better still is there anybody experienced in their fitment in western sydney - that is interested in a cash job?

Rough up the paint a bit where they are going on. Use some good contact cement.

I use contact cement but have used other products sold specifically for the job. Be sure to clean your rubber well with acrylic thinners. This removes the the release agent on the rubber so the glue can work. Wipe down the panel area with prep sol.
As for tricks? Someone will know some for sure, I just do a small length at a time to avoid getting all stuck up.

Id use the correct glue for that type of rubber. Standard contact cement doesnt always stick to the rubber and eventually comes off as ive noticed on mine because its not designed for that type of rubber. Harry has the correct stuff and same price as standard cc. Your car looks great mate!!

I actually used the 3M weatherstrip glue on mine, but others have had success with contact cement.

I used the 3M product as well.
I will someday think of something clever to say.
