Couldn't agree more Ash...

I have crawled underneath and found the transmission modulator was somewhat less than figure tight so nipped that up.

Just bought some lock wire so about to crawl under again and check the oil leaks again then lock up the caliber bolts

That should be it for tonight...

All in all a GREAT day despite not passing

What is a mod permit?

PS: Obviously modification but does it mean an engineers report or is it a less exhaustive (ha ha) report? Odd for extractors - never heard that before.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

Spot on there Dave... It is just a legal requirement due to a deviation from the original engineering design of the vehicle. Bloody technicality and as Nassi pointed out very uncommon to get pinged for something like extractors. That said, my son got done for exactly the same thing after getting a roadside defect sticker on an 07 SSV ute and that was at a different inspector...

Do you need to find someone to sign them off or do you know someone?

Nope, you simply go in to the Dept. of Transport, fill in a form, make a donation to their income revenue stream, get a small receipt and take that number back to the inspector.

Mike, what do you mean by RR tyre just below 1.5mm?

Tread depth I assume cage.

Well done Mike.. almost there! Hopefully the oil leaks are an easy fix. Rear main on the engine would not be nice.

But yeah I would just give it a clean and take it back if that's what it is!

Really? That is BS... i would have thought a modification would require a sign off from an engineer, not a bribe... the things we do to get these cars on the road...

Nice one Mike. The extractor thing is pretty odd and picky.

At least that is a cheap easy fix..... Get the grinder out and cut some deeper grooves in it. :snigger:

Yep - $92.55 for the first and $60something for the second and subsequent.

I have done everything now except the oil leaks are still persisting DAMN IT!!! I would like to think it has reduced somewhat but I am probably kidding myself.

The transmission is weeping (barely) from the rear assembly area. Just can't quite see exactly where. It is above the sump where the tail section bolts up to the main box.

The power steering is also still just showing the smallest weep from around the control valve somewhere I think... all the lines are tight and I don't think it is leaking from any of those points.

The sump or (worse) the rear main seal is showing a small weep also, up on the left hand side of the rear main...

On a lighter note, my NPD order arrived today so I have glued the interior rear view mirror mount on to the glass and will pop that on first thing in the morning - just to show I wasn't bullshitting about that - you never know, maybe it will buy me some points to do a quick wipe down of the oil leaks as he lifts it up onto the hoist and before he actually looks at it!!

Got a good quality secondhand tyre today and fitted it at Pete's (Exhausted) workshop.
Put some lockwire onto all of the brake caliper mounting bolts.
Got the Dept. of Transport Modification Permit this arvo as well - $20.00
Got the weighbridge ticket yesterday

So, with the oil leaks the only thing I am going to try and run the gauntlet tomorrow morning again and see how I go!!!

Here's to Round 2...
