Well thank f*ck I think it might be OK.
All back together and went for a 25 min drive. Some normal roads and some highway (which is where it overheated worst).
The car never got over 91 degrees that I saw according to the Megasquirt.
On the highway, it went down to 79 degrees, which is pretty much the point where the thermostat will start closing.
The fan was not required the whole drive from what I could tell. Aside from anything else, I think the shroud on this fan will flow a lot more air through it than my old setup would have.

I've also dropped the temperature of the fan kicking in from 94 down to 90.
My only remaining job is to hook the a/c compressor wire up to the low speed connector on the fan.

Finally, I think this stage can be considered "finished".
I don't have much room left in the engine bay, so the catch can was a challenge.
I bought one that I thought would fit, but it didn't so I had to modify it a fair bit.

I cut the top off it and moved the fitting for the breather filter to the side.
Modified the baffling to suit, then welded a new piece on top.
Welded some new mounting brackets on.

Having removed the rocker covers several times, I may have developed a slight leak on one side. Have nipped the bolts up, so will wait and see.
No more mods!

Any further work will just be tidying up. The door cards really need looked at. They're not holding in place in the outer corners.

Hey Jeff, nice read. Does the catch can need a vacuum or is it just the relief from the rocker covers? AND, what made you fit one in the first place?
Cheers

Jacko,
you can do either.
If you wanted to, you could remove the filter and connect back to the inlet of the supercharger, but I don't want any oil residue going back through the supercharger.

Why do it?
You can't use a PCV (vent fumes back to manifold) with forced induction, or you will end up pumping pressure into your crank case and potentially blow seals out.
With my small boost, I could probably just stick with a regular valve cover breather as there would be very little blow-by. On big boost, you can have a fair bit of air coming out the valve cover breathers, so the catch can condenses most of the oil out of the fumes before going out the breather.

I used to use drink bottles that were off push bikes with an extra bit of short tube for the breather on my 892 Detroit(one per bank).

Yeah a lot of people use those for their coolant overflows too when they go to the track.

Took the old girl for a thrash at Eastern Creek tonight.
Pretty chuffed in the end.
Here's how it went:

Run1:
- Full Auto shifting
- Took it easy off the line
- 60 ft 2.0 (best of the night 😐)
- 1/4 mile 12.5 @ 108.95 MPH
Run2:
- Manual shifting
- Gave it more off the line (wheelspin)
- 60 ft 2.27 (terrible)
- 1/4 mile 12.9 @ 111 MPH (worse time, better MPH.. good sign)
Run3:
- Manual shifting, but earlier shift to 2nd to try and cut wheelspin
- 60 ft 2.20 (still shite)
- 1/4 mile 12.4 @ 113 MPH

We had a long break here because someone blew up an hit the wall, so oil all over the track.
I was actually already happy at this point, and if it wasn't for my brother wanting a coffee before we left, I probably wouldn't have had another run.
I thought my rev limit was set to 6500, so I thought I would bump it up to 6800 as I had been hitting the limiter before the finish line.
I found out that it was actually set to 6000.. whoops. Up to 6800 it goes.

Run4:
- Full manual shifting.. late into 2nd gear (hit the limiter)
- 60 ft 2.1 (yeah still crap, but better)
- 1/4 mile 12.1 @ 118MPH (189.9 KPH)

To say I'm pleased is an understatement. I would have been happy enough with 13.5 to be honest.
With such rubbish 60 ft times, this is easily an 11 second car. I have slicks in the garage... just need wheels for them.
But then I don't want to break anything, so not sure if I will go back

This shot is after my first run. I would have gone home happy.

My mate took this one:

And this is a video of one of the runs that my brother filmed. Not the fastest one, but it was in the right lane, so can't see the car as well.

Good on you. Yep 11 sec car with the 118 MPH speed is very fast. Need fatter profiles in the back. In fact Kerry has sets of rims for those slicks - so go for it. Just need to get the 60 foot times down 1/2 second. Note: Gbx78 school of performance driving?
I will someday think of something clever to say.
