The early models had a different type of bearing like this:
The early ones did not have the bushing.
If the play is on the inside of the bearing and your column is collapsible, the shaft may need to come out further.
THERE IS A SCOTT DRAKE PART AVAILABLE....B1AZ-3518-A WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT FITS INSIDE THE UPPER BEARING.ANY IDEAS?

If you still have the original long steering shaft box, then yes that is it.
Sorry rock, that was missing on mine, so I didn't know about it.
I shouldn't ever figure that my car was a good example in any sense because it was terrible in every sense.
I've got a 68 column in mine now, so it's all different.
You could just grab the bearing numbers off the existing ones.
Not sure about the 9", but I know some 8" have separate oil seals and others are built in to the bearing.
