66 Wiper switch options

Post by hybrid »

Has anyone used a different wiper switch in their car?
Since I got caught in the rain (again) today, I've found that my wiper switch is playing up AGAIN.
These aftermarket switches are just shite.

Do painless or any of those make a replacement, or do I just gamble on another reproduction?

I could not find anything that would work as a direct replacement, but have reworked a couple of repro's. In my case it has been a case of the switch basically falling apart so reassemble and better crimping of the tabs has sufficed.

Yeah that's exactly the issue Nassi.
I've managed to get it working again, but basically the plastic backing comes apart from the metal part.
You have to be careful with the tabs because the plastic is very brittle and breaks.

If it does it again, my next trick will be to try and use the plastic back from an original switch (that I kept for some reason) with the rest of a repro switch.

Just thinking that some of that heat shrink with the glue liner might work. Never tried it though.

That's not a bad idea... could even do it on a new one for a bit of added protection.

Possibly, but I think Nassi's idea is better/neater if you can get it in the right size and it sticks well enough.
Last thing you want is resin getting inside and locking it up.

You can also do the patented Astro mod - wiper switch is connected as normal, wire up a second dip switch above the light dipper so in heavy rain you can turn the wipers on/off without moving your hands from the wheel.

I'll turn a blind eye to the patent infringement - thank me later :gimmebeer:

Cheers

Don't know why ford didn't do that for the 67-8 mustangs and the aussie falcons!
