Poppy's XJ12 Jag - pics included
Headed back to Mudgee for the Centenary of the family farm over Easter. The first trip back since my Grandfathers funeral last year. He had some interesting vehicles that were going to be sort after by family members.
The first was the 1950's Willys Jeep that he drove around in till somewhere around 1998. Its been in and out of sheds for a while and is currenly sitting outside the shearing shed. Gun mount still above the rear screen for any unsuspecting bunny hopping alongside the road. I can remember plenty of times him spotting a rabbit and turning the engine off to sneak up a little closer then using the window as a gun rest, knock off a bunny for the sheep dogs dinner that night. It's a shame it's not coming home to me... I did try to claim it...
The other car is one he bought in the 90's to get running as a cruiser. He would talk about it as one of his dream cars. It looked flash to me as a kid, and I do remember the deafening roar of it without it's exhaust many years ago. Unfortunately time and illness got the better of him, and my Nan and my uncle's who are taking over the farm, want it gone. So I put my hand up for it.
It's a 1976 Series 2 XJ12L Jag. A complete car along with a second engine for parts. I only got a few quick snaps while I was there, and I need to get a lot more info prior to moving it closer to me, but I hope I can add this to the garage in his memory.

Stick with the SU's - the FI is a fire hazard.
XJ12's were always something I wanted to own ever since I drove a v12 E when I was 17.
They were ever so smooth and soooo sophisticated.
It looks like its in pretty good condition interior...must rust?

Both nice projects Tim. The Jeep looks to have an old Ford 250 log head in it.

Even the number plate might be worth a bit, old NSW personalised plate

The carbs are stromberg CD's the injection on V12's fine and reliable, fires are caused by the short hoses to the injectors perishing , its not an issue you just change them, done many of them over the years.
By the way the L in XJ12L means long wheel base

I remember some 4 cylinder ones left over from WW2, some had GM motors and some had Ford. I thought it was just a wartime supply thing. Thanks.Shaunp wrote:A lot of them had Falcon enginesnassi wrote:Both nice projects Tim. The Jeep looks to have an old Ford 250 log head in it.

Here's what you need to bring that leather back to new:
Leatherique
You slap on a heavy coat of the oil over all the leather, chuck a garbage bag over it and leave it in the sun for a couple of days to suck in all the moisture and push out all the crap. May take a couple of applications if the leather is hard, but it's a great product that actually works really well.

I don't know if the engine is original. I think dad was dirty it had a Holden engine for a while. But with all the original bits back on the tray the motor may had been put back in it.
