Fuel sending units for 67 Mustang

I got the white fastback out for the spring and ran out of gas on the way to the station due to my aftermarket fuel sending unit is not that great.

It says full when full, but shortly after goes to empty.

I tested the ohms on full and empty per the manual and it reads ok, I guess the float lever must not be bent properly.

Is there a quality aftermarket reproduction for these?

I haven't even tried the one I put in the other fastback as I don't have the dash in it yet.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ryan, when you did the resistance test was the sender out of the car? If so, turn the sender over and try again. I have had some where the wiper on the potentiometer would lose contact with the wire wound resistance unit. This can be retensioned.

I can't say that I have found a "quality" reproduction one.

I will have to check it again, problem is I just filled up! Out here in the rural areas there aren't as many houses, but fortunately I was near a house and the guy lent me a gallon of gas!

The wife was up in Kansas City so was no help of course!

I tried to repair the float on my Cougar a few times - gave up and purchased a new float.

two floats in the grey car thus far. Is it so hard to make a bloody brass float not a sink!

nassi is right, they are the luck of the draw. Fuel senders are the bain of my build so far. I've been through four of them, plastic or brass floats make no difference.

I recommend buying two of them if you are to replace the current one. Watch out for the seal of the sending unit wire. It fails and leaks, two I had leak there. Check the float in a bucket of water prior to putting it in (and let it dry).

I generally rebuild the old sender and put on a new brass float.
