Tailshaft..
Hi guys, after some advice.
I need a tail shaft, Ford BTR auto to 8 1/2 diff.
So.
Do I buy an AU drive shaft and get it cut down.
Buy a mustang diff and cut it down, (I have the AU slip yoke)
Or just get a brand new one made up.
Engine is 302 EFI, stock...
Cheers

Re: Tailshaft..
My aluminium one owed me $550 delivered from the states.
Might be a bit more now with the dollar lower.
I couldn't get one local for less than $850

Re: Tailshaft..
The tailshaft out of the donor car was aluminium, 2 tailshaft places told me they are not allowed anymore?
The price locally with me giving them the slip yoke was $700.....

Re: Tailshaft..
Not sure... I certainly haven't had any issues with mine, but inspectors don't look over the car much because it's all new.
Re: Tailshaft..
Find one and have it cut and balanced - should be only $200 (It was a while ago).
I will someday think of something clever to say.
Re: Tailshaft..
Agree with Boof. My last one cost me $250 here in Canberra and he supplied the tube. M&A Engineering 6241 4155

Re: Tailshaft..
So, do I get a mustang one, or AU one and get it shortened?
$700 for a new one seems steep.

Re: Tailshaft..
It won't really matter.
One will need a new yoke, the other will need a new rear uni setup.

Re: Tailshaft..
I'd probably get a Mustang one then, but again no big deal. Any place can modify it as necessary.

Ok, sounds like a plan..hybrid wrote:I'd probably get a Mustang one then, but again no big deal. Any place can modify it as necessary.
Now to, find a mustang tailshaft, or the Equivilant, I assume no wreckers will have a mustang one...
I Think XY is the same, what other fords will fit?

Re: Tailshaft..
Anything with the same size universal joint will work.
Re: Tailshaft..
XD-F 6 Cyl should be fine.

Re: Tailshaft..
The mustang yoke is the same spline and size as the BTR , i used the whole mustang tailshaft without modification. However my motor sits forward maybe 30- 50mm than std so yours may need shortening.
