Hood prop rod?
Been looking for a prop rod for my fiberglass hood and although i remember a build thread on one I can't find it. Just getting a little nervous using the timber prop rod now that I have the engine running. Can someone tell me where it is?
Thanks, Neil.
Thanks, Neil.

That 'might' have been mine. I have one for my fg hood and it sits in the bonnet pin hole. Ill find a pic . . Ozbilt did it for me. Opens up the hood alot higher than factory.

Re: Hood prop rod?
Im using lighter falcon springs which helped woth alignment of bonnet as my fg springs were causing some issues.
Is this what you were after? Its bolted in with a rivnut and nylon washers and locking nut. A washer is weld up top and we used a firewall pad rubber plug over top of rod which was perfect size to fit in bonnet pin hole and protect everything ..was meant to be. I love this thing.
I used a cable clip that locks it in place.. its just temp until I use a polished one

I made one very similar to the one above, except no where near as proffesional.
Bunnings sell some hollow alloy rod which I used.

Awesome thanks for that, what is behind the rubber pad at the hood where it clips in?gbx78 wrote:I painted it with VHT anodised silver base. Nice and sparkly.. i have shares in VHT.. i promote wrinkle and anodised finishes
Re: Hood prop rod?
This is the low tech one I made for about 10 bucks.
The alloy rod is pretty easy to bend by hand, but is strong enough with a load from above. I had a spare throttle linkage ball joint that i fitted to the hood, and is the perfect size to fit inside the rod.

Re: Hood prop rod?
Im not sure what you mean. Its just a hole in hood for hood pin. The black square thing is like a thin film of hard plastic stuck on as a wearing pad and protect the paint from chipping from the rod going in and out..if that makes sense. Steve put it on there a while back so unsure where to get it but a good idea. Is that what you're referring to?unilec5544 wrote:Awesome thanks for that, what is behind the rubber pad at the hood where it clips in?gbx78 wrote:I painted it with VHT anodised silver base. Looks good to me. I love reusing other bits for their unintended purpose. Its thinking outside the box!Husky65 wrote:This is the low tech one I made for about 10 bucks.
