Q re torque box positioning

Post by Chux »

Well being an idiot I didn’t take pics of the inside of the torque box positioning. To be fair their wasn’t a lot of the old box there and they had screwed new floor over the old floor which was pretty ugly.

I have patched the sections of the inside kick panel where the old torque box and type board attached finally and getting ready to install torque box.

I have the 2pce Dii torque box and the lower section sits in properly, however I cannot recall whether the top plate lip goes under or over the frame rail/floor support section. The 2 sections of the box don’t mate up well when it is sitting on top of the rail yet I have been looking on the net and it seems most have the top piece sitting on top of the frame rail?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Goes under the lip of the rail. If you had it assembled & jacked it in place, it would be under. That is how the factory did it.

The torque boxes were an afterthought in all the body shapes (at first only convertibles had them) so the firewall/ foot Wells were designed to fit the rails if it had torque boxes or not. So they made them fit by designing them to be under, saving a redesign of the firewall/ foot well.
