68 Mustang Brake Warning Light
Hi There ,
Finally doing some more work on 68 Coupe towards getting it ready for Rego .
Replaced all the brakes ,Master cylinder and hoses but still have the Brake warning light staying On .
I have read it's probably a an off centre or stuck piston in the Brake Balancer .
Question : Is there any easy way to unstick or put it back in the centre or is the only way to
remove it and pull it apart ? ?

If you know which direction it's stuck (front or back), I think you can crack one of the other nipples and make it go back the other way. You slowly press the pedal until the light goes out, then shut the nipple again. If you go too far and the light comes back on, you'll have to do it the other way.
It's been a while though, so maybe someone else can confirm I'm not telling porkies.

Re: 68 Mustang Brake Warning Light
On some cars it helps to take the switch out, I think sometimes the pin on the switch stops the piston from centering. Stab the brakes a few times with the motor running and the switch out. See how that goes.
Re: 68 Mustang Brake Warning Light
Yeah, that can work. You can also pull a 68 one apart and manually center the piston.
If you do get it centered by either means, you can use a centering tool to keep the piston in the middle (rare but I have one) and bleed brakes by depressing the pedal, the common old way of bleeding brakes.
Or just have the switch in there and NOT push the pedal when bleeding brakes, just open all bleeders and let gravity do the job.

Re: 68 Mustang Brake Warning Light
Thanks Guys,
Will give it a try , I did actually take the switch out to check it was not stuck not long after posting . It did seem to be OK after that so maybe it did centre itself ? The bugger is now it seems I have sprung a leak at the rear T-Piece and I have to start all over again bleeding the brakes after I fix it, One connection wouldnt seal ? . Was a brand new T-Piece and hose so I bought some new brake lines ...bummer is that it still didn't fix it so looks like the new rear T-Piece & hose is faulty ?
Thankfully the seller was happy to replace it ASAP ?

That bloody thing, along with the proportioning valve is how I started with the red car. It was such a simple request: how do I stop that light...

Does this pic help:
You might find the spring loaded plunger on your switch is just up on one side of the valley, sufficiently for it to be making contact. If you remove the switch/plunger out of the brake distribution block, can you make the light activate and not?

Re: 68 Mustang Brake Warning Light
Thanks to all who replied , It seems that in my case at least just removing the switch , checking it's not stuck then putting it back in the block reset things . I now have working brakes and the Warning light has gone out. One step closer to Rego ?

Nope not at all Astro, wiring is a speciality of mine. After my time on your project I will have most electrical components activating with a single switch (usually the light switch as it is the easiest to access)- who needs those BUS and relay systems! Hey, last weekend with JBB I even used a fruit device and did not vomit (fully) once- progress of sorts.
