Vitour GT muscle car tyres?

Post by mungus »

Just seen these Vitour brand Galaxy Radial GT tyres on eBay, being retailed by a SA tyre shop. Thought it's worth mentioning in case someone is looking for new tyres.

Fairly new to OZ market as I understand it.
Chinese made, RWL V speed rated tyres in our sizes.
Not expensive. $100-160. 215-295 widths etc.
Standard profiles like 60.
Wear rating 400, so not that soft, but then not rock hard either.
Traction code A,
Heat code also A.

Anyone tried them yet? For now I just like that their old school looks with a V speed rating. As far as I know no other cheap tyre offers that. To my knowledge these would be the only V rated old school look muscle car tyres except for the mega dollar Avon CR66ZZ's. (C $600 each)

I figure they can't be any worse than the roller skate BFG T/A or Cooper Cobras with their pathetic speed ratings. Just another option perhaps? Or are Chinese speed ratings not trustworthy? That's my only real concern.

Some scary news articles from the USA on YouTube regarding Chinese tyres. But are they all bad? Are many brand name tyres made there now anyway? Not my trade really so don't have inside knowledge in those issues?

Anyone know anything more? Can't find any reviews yet.

Thanks. Pity whoever did their website can't spell... :-)
Also the menu options don't go anywhere, so no way to know size availability or specs. Doesn't exactly give you a professional impression.

Nice to know I don't need to pay for freight ex SA if I buy them though. Might give them a call today and see who sells them near me.

Some googling reveals they are promoting their tyres (different models obviously) in NZ and Japanese drifting competitions, apparently using them with success. So perhaps they are not all junk?

If the V rating is real, not just Chinese BS, then they could be a real contender for classic muscle cars. Look and price are right. Etc. They are rated 400/A/A, so their heat rating is better than either Cooper's Cobras or the venerable BFG T/A, which are both rated B. The Cooper might be harder too as their stated wear rating is 440. If one can believe Chinese ratings they should perform slightly better than those 2 usual choices.

UPDATE:

OK spoke to the official importer in VIC. Those VITOUR Galaxy GT tyres on eBay are being parallel imported by someone else. Although they may bring some in themselves later. As the SA retailer reckoned he could get any listed size in a few hours I'm guessing the grey importer must be in Adelaide?

I looked at those tires also, thought they looked pretty good for the money but unfortunately for me they only make them with white lettering- I hate that shit.

Can't turn the tyres around? Or do they have RWL on both sidewalls?
Like you I don't like RWL either.

Unless they are directional they can be turned around, usually only one side with raised lettering..

Can just put them on the other side of the car. Whitewall to the inside.

Shop says only RWL on one side, like most RWL tires...
Here’s what the non RWL side looks like.

Well lots of time on my hands, stuck in my hotel room on COVID lockdown. So I finally found some photos (albeit low res) of Mustangs with those VITOUR Galaxy GT tyres. Bad quality but heres one with the RWL out and one in. Nicely for me the one on the "in" is of a 68 running TT-D's, like mine! I also found a couple of positive reviews on the UK Cobra club forum.

They can't be any worse than BF Goodrich Radial T/A anyway. The old man uses them on his car and they're horrible.

Interestingly some of the reviews compare them to the BFG roller skates. Much stickier than BFG’s they say, and their V rating is way better than the H or S on the big brand’s so called muscle car tyres (barring the butter soft Avons ZZ’s @ $600 each). So I’m thinking these VITOURs might be a good choice. Looks wise I’d love a set of the new radial replica Firestone F70’s from Coker but at $500+ AUD each (and again a low speed rating) they’re just not practical unless it’s a concourse trailer queen.

T/A's have never been anything other than rim savers, they were crap 30 years ago but they were cheap compered to other low profile tyres back then.
