Steps on Importing
So thanks to Ken the car is on its way to perth slowly but surely.
I am however not sure what to do now. Do I need an import broker or am I myself able to just pay the fees etc once its landed and take the car? Not really sure on how this works or if there is a website from the DPI or customs that specifies the process. So any advice is welcome at this point in time

Re: Steps on Importing
I'd use a broker to be honest. Their fee is not that big and they sort everything for you, so you don't have to deal with customs directly.
I used this guy:
Frank Todero
Dominion Freight Logistics
Tel: (03) 9338 8555
Obviously they are in Melb. Not sure if they have anyone in Perth, but Frank was a top notch bloke. Really nice guy and easy to deal with.

thanks for fast reply Jeff. I never understood, and this might be a stupid question but why do you need to use a broker?

To sort out the miriad of payments and fees and inspections for:Dynamic wrote:thanks for fast reply Jeff. I never understood, and this might be a stupid question but why do you need to use a broker?
Port arrival fee
container unloading fee
container unpacking fee
customs inspection + fee
quarantine inspection + fee
cleaning (if required by AQIS)
transport from port to inspection location (if required)
GST payment
Duty payment (if any)...
The list goes on I think and there are a lot of different people to communicate with...
Also, from my understanding (no first hand experience) but AQIS and Customs prefer to deal with known agents as they do build relationships up with them to some extent and it will be a lot quicker and FAR LESS painfull for you...

Re: Steps on Importing

Re: Steps on Importing
mate i used mil mollica at universal custom brokers.
good service and very helpful with questions etc. Had a very fast and un-traumatic experience with customs as well due to them.
Well worth the 440$ or something similar that was their fee. Relativley small compared with all the other costs that add up...
