Rear window edge rust?
i seem to have a lot of rust in the inside edge of the rear windscreen, so i think it will be best if I can find a replacement panel for this area.
Where can I buy one locally ( within Australia), or will I need to get one from the USA? Also what is the name of this panel?
Appreciate any help, cheers Neil.

Hi Neil,
Its called an "Outer Rear Deck Panel" according to the NPD catalogue.
$94.95 USD.
I needed one for my 66, but we got one locally cause we needed it quicker.
$170 something.
Local vendors should have it.

Re: Rear window edge rust?
Actually you can have my old one , let me check that area tomorrow i think mine was good and you can just cut out the area you want. It was just badly pitted on top where it had been exposed too long, hadnt penitrated right through, just couldnt live knowing what was under the paint, being a bit fussy.
I was going to patch it untill i found i could get the panel.
It would be too hard to fabricate with all the curves otherwise i would of given it a go.

Re: Rear window edge rust?
hey Scott, thanks for that. I would also like to get my car looking as good as new, just shocked at the cost.
I still need to get rear floor and LH quarter panels, so will shop around till i find what I need.
Cheers Neil.

Re: Rear window edge rust?
That panel is a "deck lid filler" and Capital Classics has them in stock and way cheaper than $400.

I recon I have a new one in the shed, but it is for a 69 Fastback. I repaired mine and did not use it. What year are you after??

Re: Rear window edge rust?
hi Neil, heres some pictures of what you need to do.
This is what the sandblasting may reveal
this is what we did, try to use the factory panel joins, we considered just doing the edge, but we wanted to keep the contours around the back area nice and crisp.
Drill out the spot welds, treat and prime the inner panels, no more rust baddies
Fit up the panel
Weld it up solid, they also had the lip contact spot welded to the inner panel where the boot drain lip is.
Here she is in putty
enjoy the pics

Re: Rear window edge rust?
Hey Chris,
Thanks for the pics, it seems to be a fairly straight forward repair, just a load of spot welds to drill out.
This seems to be a common problem with fastbacks.
Cheers Neil.

Re: Rear window edge rust?
Yeah. The rubber fails and they leak. It's only a matter of time...
Re: Rear window edge rust?
They've been available for about 3 years. I happened to be the first customer to every buy em. They appeared on dynacorns website at a time when i was watching their new products page weekly.
At the time I had an urgent requirement for 2, so i ordered 3 direct...just using the last one now. Mine were about $130 Au, incl frieght.
They area quality panel, and fit very well.
Cheers
