AQIS - Melbourne

Post by Dad »

Was speaking to someone today that said there is a backlog of cars coming out of customs because AQIS are on a mission but have a shortage of cleaners - the backlog quoted by my source was 2 weeks.

Can anyone confirm or dispute this ?
Cheers,
Dad

I spoke to my broker not long ago, but he didnt mention anything.

Would that mean you would be up for storage fees waiting to clear customs ?

Cheers,
Frank.

Maybe you could quiz your broker on the issue ?

No, they don't charge in that instance Frank, it's just a typical holdup.

I would just give your broker a call.
I think you got your car through Matt and if so you are probably using freightnet. If so call Jenny there as she is always very helpful.

Shortage of cleaners. What a joke.

The public service absolutely shits me at times. They wouldnt survive one second in private and non regulated industry. But lets not get started on that.

Its not as if they "clean" the cars anyway. The state that i have seen some of the vehicles come out of that place is incredible. Literally beyond belief. What makes it worse is that i am not in the car or importing/exporting scene so i probably havent seen the worst of it.

One example; a friend recently imported a Mustang - picked it up from the yard after it had been "cleaned". Drove it home, excitedly sat in the back seat and found an assortment of bullets at his feet. Bullets!

Other things such as paperwork/private personal material, a load of sand/plant matter and your usual smattering of coins and bolts have also been found. I would hate to see what a couple of you older boys on this site with more experience with this thing have uncovered.

Now i am not unreasonable. I do not expect a $200 Polish and interior detail. But i would expect, at a minimum, that if a customs appointed cleaner is reviewing the car. They remove some shell casings and a handful of live ammunition.
