hey all,
im replacing the RH side floor on my 66 mustang coupe and wanted to know 2 things
1. i bought the RH side floor front and rear together, and the front firewall extensions separate... does the extension sit on top or below the floor pan
and
2. what is the big black box under the glove compartment where the firewall is inside the car?? do i need to remove it to fit the firewall extension??
obviously im really new to rebuilding cars hahahah
thanks
Tristan

The big black box sounds like the heater box.

The extension fits below the floor pan.

Re: what is it?
thanks guys, so im guessing that the 4 bolts on the blower in the engine bay is holding the heater box in place. removing those 4 bolts should get it out??

You should also find a hex head self tapper on a small bracket, cant remember exactly where but think its over near the vent or kick panel area. Often long gone so dont worry if you cant find it.tceddia wrote:thanks guys, so im guessing that the 4 bolts on the blower in the engine bay is holding the heater box in place. removing those 4 bolts should get it out??

Re: what is it?
Not sure what year you have but you may also have a bolt holding it from the top. If your going to disconnect your cables that control the heater box flaps etc. Mark them with some tape so you dont have to guess where they go when its time for fitting back uptceddia wrote:thanks guys, so im guessing that the 4 bolts on the blower in the engine bay is holding the heater box in place. removing those 4 bolts should get it out??
You will also need to disconnect your heater hoses.....that can be done once you have unscrewed the 4 nuts in the engine bay and disconnected the power wires.
Pull the heater box towards you inside the car and you will see the heater hoses a bit better. There will be 2 hose clamps that you will need to undo....probably want to mark top and bottom just in case.
Whole thing should just pull out> Dont forget, the heater box core will be full of water when you undo the hoses....take out your carpet first

Hey Tristan,
I note you are in Melbourne. I have a couple of stangs in the shop atm. You are welcome to come in for a visit and I can show you around what you are trying to achieve.

Jas
