Made it to geelong, ute didnt.........

Machanic tested a few things. A cool trick was he connected a little gas bottle to the throttle body bypassing the convertor. Engine ran.
We took out the convertor out and machanic checked it out and she was toast.
The lead he had from a taxi guy feel through for a replacement.
a replacement will be dispatched monday.
we went and hired a car, staying in a b&b tonight and go visit tomorrow then back tocanberra. Wed or thursday we will return to albury to collect ute andreturn hire car. Worked out cheaper to rent car extra days rather then pay for excess km's.
Cheers,
j

Ute still works fine. Just the converter doesn't.... Two trips on a tow truck, broke down 4(ish) times. Didn't take the ranger because the ute had cruise and the ranger didn't. Hire car didn't have cruise either. Ah, well. Might trade ol' ute in for that EA GT on display. Or the 4 door ute... Nice bit of kit!

As it turned out, where we broke down was close to:
- town
- mechanical workshop (less than 8 km tow!)
- car hire place
- accommodation
- LPG specialist

Now back home and planning the recovery of the ute. Another road trip later this week!

Woohoo! Ute has been repaired and made it home. It seemed to get even better mileage with the new converter.

even though you made it all the way to Canberra you used less fuel than when you broke down without making Albury amazing , thats uphill and eveything...,cept for that last realy steep downhill bit into the nations capital.. :poke:

I wish it was that simple Pete! But heading away from the vic border seemed to get a lot better mileage. Maybe the ute had been abused in Geelong and was having an adverse reaction about visiting the place of it's birth.

well Moe,maybe it just comes down to the fact that it's all downhill after the border........ :rotfl:

could be..., but would come down to whichever way provided the best fuel return would logically be the down hill run....
