Cant find one pic of the way it was bolted on, but i used the top spring hanger bush and i think the exhaust hanger bolt hole is next to it ? mine was just angle welded on top of angle, 75mm x 6mm house window lintle scraps.

with regard to your broken bolt , you can drill and tap , or see if you can get it out with and ezy out

Found some other pics but sounds like you are on the right track.
One thing to keep in mind is allow at least 100mm from the tail light panel incase you end up replacing it or the lower fuel tank support like i ended up doing. Also gives extra room for spraying primer or paint.

I did mine similar to Scott except I used the hanger bush for one attachment then a long bolt right through the rear rail from the boot all the way through the rail and the spit arm. I used a bit of flat plate in the boot to spread the load over the rail. I would put up some photos but only have the iPad and can't seem to get photos from photo bucket to work. Might be some in my project thread...

Edit. Page 12 of the Caroline build thread has some photos of the setup.
