Removing tar from paintwork

Post by mwizz »

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to remove tar from the paintwork. I have a few splatters that have dried.

Prepsol, commonly known as wax & grease remover. Will not harm the paint, using a rag moist with the fluid will take it off.

So will kero if you have any about.

When finished, spread the rag out so it can dry before throwing away, never scrunch up & throw in a garbage as it can spontaneous combust.

I got some off some tiles the other day with turps, but not sure what that will do to paint.

Be cautious of Kero on 2 pak, the Kero is like a scourer and can flatten. Bug and Tar remover in the polish section of any parts store is usually a good second option to Prepsol.

Although for the average enthusiast 4litres of prepsol from a Automotive Paint store will last a long long time. Grab yourself a quality solvent style pump sprayer and mist it on wipe off, follow Kerry's direction on cloth disposal for any Solvent used cloth.

Couldn't find any kero around the hose so picked up some Macguires bug and tar remover and that is working well. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
