Headers

Post by cage »

Need some helps boys. I am running out of funds and I am needing to get a set of headers for my 347. RHD with TCP rack and pinion, C4.

I am thinking shorty headers but I am wondering if I can pick up a second hand set that I can clean up to keep the costs down. Every cent saved right now will help me get this thing finished. Custom ones are going to too much $ for me right now.

Any ideas on what headers will work?

Advance in S.A. Do RHD headers if you find the funds for new ones. From memory they fit around TCP rack configuration but can't be sure.

Shorties will be less expensive than full length as will Tri Ys.
In your case Shorties might be the best option. For example;

Being so short they should not interfere though the above is for later model so Check before hand. I know gbx78 is using shorties in his car so he might be able to shine more light on it.

I would get nothing less than a 1 5/8 primary tube. Quick look around price being the primary factory I found part PTE-H8433 for $189.00 - low prices often worry me though check it out.

You could get factory seconds.... cheap - just need to find someone with a belt sander to flatten the flang back out. You would need to find out if they would fit your model.

Good luck.

Agree. I use them on just about every modified build I do.

If there's any way you can find 1 5/8" primaries on headers of any length, it would be helpful on a 347. I think the Advance have 1 1/2" primaries (I believe they fit RRS so may be good on TCP too). Good luck!

I got some 1-5/8 ceramic coated long tube pipes from Sydney mustang parts these are for rhd with falcon box they are pretty nice. Not sure how they would go with a rack. Tcp sits forward so maybe ok. $750 I think they were. Hedman elites

I'm sure I have pacemakers for my RHD but am using the XF steer set up. Not sure if they'd foul the TCP but they were around $500 from vague memory

I'd be cautious buying second hand ones unless there is a good reason for them selling.
Headers are not something you change for the sake of it.

You could consider just putting standard manifolds on it for a few months until you can afford a good set of headers. You'd probably get them for free from someone, and at least the car would be on the road.

You'd have to modify your exhaust to fit the headers afterwards, but that would be true of any headers when you get your new ones, unless they are identical - but then why would you buy new ones if they were?

I have falcon pacemakers on my RHD 67 Cougar and they are most a straight up fit. Minor changes only for final fit.

Just save $400 and get the shorties [1 5/8 or better the 1 3/4]. If you only need a setup temporary to allow you to start the engine just to check things out then borrow a standard set as Hybrid suggested and use extension (love the noise). I would hate to see your exhaust hold the engines' potential back. Having said that I understand that Money is tight.

Pacemakers are 1-1/2 not 1-5/8. couple of pics of the Hedmans below. Call Sydney mustang parts and ask if the will fit.
