Agree Shaun.. they shouldn't backfire, but who knows who tuned them.
It can either be too lean or a timing issue.

I didn't mean I had heard of Paxtons causing backfire, but had heard of backfires causing issues with the Paxtons.

A blow off valve, at just the right pressure should fix it, plus some extra fuel and the accel pump perhaps. It's likly the carbs have been jetted at cruise, and as you have to use a DP probably not a enough fuel when all 4 barrels snap open, that my guess anyway.

You can still get backfires with EFI under the same conditions (lean/timing), but going with EFI kinda forces you to tune it properly rather than just slapping on a carby and driving.
