Well finally found time to get started on the firewall conversion. decided to remove most of the old firewall and make a new one, but just use the pedal box section.

Image

I have also had the draglink modified to rhd, so have fitted all the part together to make sure the entrance hole to the steering shaft lines up correctly before I weld that part to the firewall in.

My camera is playing up for some reason, so pics are not to clear.
Once I have the firewall and the steering box mounted, I'll make up some templates to get the idler arm in the correct postion.

Cheers Neil.

Well today I welded in the new firewall. I used the old one as a rough guide to bend up the new one,but wanted sharper lines than the original.

I intended to use the original accelerator with a cable so left the original holes in place. I was going to just box this area in so it came into the engine bay, but now having second thoughts.
Interested to here from others that have resolved the accelerator issue.

Once i have touched up a few areas around the firewall, then its on to the steering.

Cheers Neil.

I'm in no way experienced in RHD conversions but I would be inclined to either run a later cable throttle from a falcon and route it through the engine bay side of firewall or use a modified setup, accelerator rod type, from xk-xp falcon (modify it for v8 carby) or use a rod setup from an xr-xc falcon.

By using the LHD mustang one it will interfere with brake master cyl and it will still need modding where as using falcon one may allow for a more factory type look.

Other than that I think its coming along really well, looks half factory with your heater box humps. Thumbs up!

Swap it out to XF/E Series. No one will notice it.

It becomes a simple matter of using grommets to seal things off. Using the E series pedal assy, gives you a bigger range of cable choice. CFI EA/EB being the shortest, V8 is medium length, and EA/EB MPFI the longest.

I don't much care for your wiring loom hole being there, unless you plan on doing a hidden loom, then it's a ripper location.

Looking good Neil.

And no Shayne, with the way this is setup, it won't interfere with the booster :)

Depending what brakes you are going to run, you could possibly even modify an E series pedal box and use a V8 E series Booster and M/Cyl, just make an alloy spacer 15mm. See Scott66stangs conversion.

It may even be of assistance to you as he used an e series accelerator pedal.

Thanks guys for all the comments, I will look into the many options that have been mentioned. Even if i do not use the original hole, it just needs a grommet to fill it.
yeah, the wiring loom will be hidden in a conduit above the wheel well so hopefully no wires will be seen.

Neil

awesome job mate. Take my hat off to you

As for the accelorator pedal, I would go with the cable set up as others have suggested

Nice work Neil. I went with an XF accelerator pedal as it allows the cable to exit the firewall about 4" right of centre.

I modified the factory throttle, here is an early picture i bent it some more to make the verticle more verticle and made plinth on the toe board to screw it to. Then an aftermaket cable from auto pro that says V8 holden or ford.

Awesome Shaun, i think I will do the same looks easy enough and then I can exit the cable inline with the carb linkage.

almost have the steering conversion finished, thought i would get it all together and fitted in position before i sent the drag link off to get X-rayed.
Once i had the fixing holes drill through the frame and welded in the crush tubes, the rest went together fairly easy.

power steering box fitted.

And also fitted the old xy idler arm to check all looked good and all measurements were correct.
