Re: Time to start my rebuild project
Good to see another build starting, if only the starting pic was not so gut wrenching

Yes Kerry I was thinking of putting the wraps round the shock towers, I actually re read Mikes68 thread to ee how to do it, also debaiting whether or not to notch the towers, also looking to do the shelby drop ,
Re: Time to start my rebuild project
Hey Lee, quick tip... I didn't do mine exactly correctly although nothing wrong with them. If you are looking for correct attachment then DO NOT stitch them all around the edges. They just have some plug welds drilled / welded through from behind. Mine will certainly be more than strong enough but just an innocent / ignorant oversight on my part.LEEH69 wrote:Yes Kerry I was thinking of putting the wraps round the shock towers, I actually re read Mikes68 thread to ee how to do it, also debaiting whether or not to notch the towers, also looking to do the shelby drop ,

Re: Time to start my rebuild project
Thanks Mike, but to honest I'm thinking of welding them as you have and maybe a little more so I can regrind and feather out the edge as to remove the step at the edge of the plate and get a nice blend.
Re: Time to start my rebuild project
Do NOT notch the towers. Not needed with an early push rod engine (be it BB or SB).
You would only consider that if fitting a modular engine & mcpherson strut front end (the suspension would be a backward step).

Re: Time to start my rebuild project
I have seen some kits include plate to add to the 2 uprights where the UCA bolts through, is that needed ??
Re: Time to start my rebuild project
The Trans Am Mustangs of 69 & 70 used a filler on the outside that went from the outer top of rail to just below where the top A arm bolted in. Looked a bit like a dog bone shape.LEEH69 wrote:I have seen some kits include plate to add to the 2 uprights where the UCA bolts through, is that needed ??

Re: Time to start my rebuild project
Looks good so far. Great to see one come back from a wreck.!
Re: Time to start my rebuild project
well I haven't updated this for a while, so here are a few more pics of the new front clip replacement, and panels mocked up to check alignment.
so far so good. now straighter than it was pre accident, also found other damage to the drivers side A pillar from a previous poor repair job, plus the appearance of a few rust spots that will need repairs. still a long way to go.......
