I had a look at the schematics, and it looks like it's just a resistor and a cap from the CPU pin.
However, considering the microsquirt is the footprint of about a business card, all components are SMD and there is not much room to play.

I have done plenty of mods on full size megasquirts, but this is a different beast.

I would give it a go - nothing to loose really. Wrap the components in shrink rap and solder them in. Makes it look like a normal Megasquirt  with wires jumping over it.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

There is something to lose... a working ECU

I have asked on the Microsquirt forum anyway to see what they say.
There is possibly 0.5mm between pins on the CPU on a microsquirt.

Nassi - That is a rather good vid. I hate that fact he forgets there is an 'l' in solder.

Hybrid - I am confident that your skills will mean no issue with the CPU. It is only one pin on the ECU to solder to and rest is external (and far harder). I am confident you can do it.

Confirmation from the designer of the squirts, that it's as simple as this:

Gotta give it a go eh... I will have to take a trip to Jaycar at some stage.

Make sure you sodder it as that is what the vid demands .... :poke:

Mod has been done. There was less than a resistor leg between the CPU pins, so it was a bitch of a job.

Car still starts afterwards, so I think it was successful, but need to check if there is a way I can test it before I buy the KnockSenseMS module.

Its a 0 - 5v input. So put 5 V on and see it register - aka maybe retard the ignition. Use the 5V source for the TPS I guess will do for a basic test.

There's a knock gauge in tunerstudio, so maybe I can put 5v and see if the gauge moves.
Or maybe I could even use the TPS signal and vary it.

The output from the conditioning and amplification circuit between the sensor and the ECU input line is simply an on or off. So I would put 5V (though include a resistor and diode protection) as shown here

Image

and just turn it on or off.

The conditioning circuit goes to the above protection (which might not be needed given you have added the resistor and smoothing cap). This is a simple illustration (for our readers :lol: );

So this is an example

Tuning it is an issue though so ..

Could purchase a kit from here

http://www.viatrack.ca/

or

Get a factory unit (such as a GM one) as illustrated in this

http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/knock.htm

I am interested how this project works out.
