I only need to do the door windows where they go into the steel channel that sits within the door. I haven't removed the stainless trim from the glass so wouldn't need all that much.mert wrote:Have seen it called strip seal and setting tape. Comes in various thicknesses. IIRC 1/16" works for Mustang window glass.

I may have a spare roll, or part of one. How much do you need?

We called it liquorice. Not sure if that is an official term though.xpconnor wrote:Just bringing an old thread back too life.nassi wrote:That rubber strip is available at "rare spares".
Use kerosene to moisten it and be warned, its one of the messiest jobs you will tackle on your resto. An extra pair of hands is a help too.
Nassi do you know what rare spares call the rubber stripping for the window. Our local autobarn is a rare spares distributor but when I went I there today they weren't sure what I wanted and couldn't find it on the rare spares website. I also had a look on the website and can't find it either so I might just ring rare spares tomorrow and ask if they have it but would be easier if I know what to call it. Failing that I will try Clark rubber and if that is still a miss I might have to get it in from the U.S.
Re: Window repair
Sorry, looked on the shelf, only some small ends left from doing mine. Thought I had a spare roll but none there...

I went into our local Clarke rubber the other week and the thinnest stuff they had was 3mm so too thick.Ausjacko wrote:I used this: 20mm by 1mm rubber strip from Clark Rubber
I will try Scotts tomorrow as it looks like they have it. Thanks Shaun.

Re: Window repair
When I was doing my 66 quarter vent windows I had a similar issue. I tried using the correct rubber and kerosene but after many attempts I just could not get it to work. As Nassi said, a messy job. Perhaps my skill level was not up to par. I gave up in frustration.
A few days later I was standing at my kitchen window and noticed the glass sat in an aluminium channel with a rubber seal. Light bulb moment. The next week-end I found a window manufacturer and took the quarter glass with me. The shop found a compatible rubber seal, already molded into a 'U' shape. The bloke gave me the rubber seal for free. Took the seal home and pressed the stainless steel frame, rubber seal and glass together. Trimmed off the excess with a sharp knife. Not concourse but unless you point out the seal, no-one can tell.
So perhaps try a window manufacturer. Just a suggestion.

Re: Window repair
Thanks to all for your help. I emailed glass 4 classics and Scotts yesterday afternoon and heard back from glass 4 classics straight away. They stock it and it is $10 a metre and they even attached some photos and instructions of what to do to fit the glass.
I will order 4 metres as this should give me two goes at each window if it doesn't work first time around. Will keep you posted with how I go.
