Re: Spindle welding
For the stubs check with your eng dude first. It a lot of work to weld them I can tell you.
Re: Spindle welding
OK will do Shaun, I will also post some pictures of the heads soon, as for the engine I intend to run a Dart 4.125 based block, somewhere around 400 cubes and a TKO 600 gearbox
Re: Spindle welding
So 351 dart block then, it could go to 460 if you want and those heads would be best on big cubes, 10 sec car. I think you should consider removing the shock towers and running a Mustang 2 type front end, or though I hate to say it a RRS strut front end, I think this would be easier then trying to get the bump steer etc right on the altered stubs and would give you the wheel room you need.

Re: Spindle welding
Out of interest what is the purpose of this build. In other words what is your intention for the car? I am guessing more than street use. Looking forward to this one taking shape.
"The simple answer is, even if I have decided I still don't know what to do."
Re: Spindle welding
Hi Cage, I don't have a specific intended use for this car, I have had a couple of stock 69 mustangs before, small block and FE, I am just doing this because its what I want to do.
I have no firm commitment yet as to where this will end as I still need to check with my Engineer.

Re: Spindle welding
That is a potentially serious engine. Half decent build should crack 700HP which will goes 9's if setup right. Looks like your going about it the right way in terms of gear. I can understand your choices if Autox or some form of track racing is your goal for all that rubber on the front. Drag racing not so much - no need for 11" fronts. I am concerned for front end geometry but I have assumed MikeM has that sorted with the supplied specifications (it would be best if he can supply the parts as well).
It will be interesting in what the engineer will say. I am sure a replacement front end such as a Mustang II or similar would be his preference (and would likely be easier) though you will not get the rubber you want up front. Only way will be custom spindles and long arms. It is also the only way to get the scrub radius right. It is the approach that all the leading AutoX people use, e.g, Softer springs, big rollbars lots of Caster with large offset for scrub. I am interested in your progress.

I will someday think of something clever to say.
Re: Spindle welding
Hi Guys, what about custom spindles, does anyone know who can make them here in Aus???
Re: Spindle welding
Doubt it, I think Castlemain rod shop make drop ones maybe worth a call.
Re: Spindle welding
Hey Shaun, yes they do them but the more the drop, the worse the steering arm hits the rim.
Ah well I will keep looking

Terry Bosnjak Engineering may be worth a call..he's done a lot of work for people restoring Group C Touring cars. He may have some ideas.

Re: Spindle welding
Thanks ants, I will give him a call
Re: Spindle welding
Just stay away from the Dart short blocks!!
Re: Spindle welding
Luke, what is the status of your engine now?
I will someday think of something clever to say.
Re: Spindle welding
I'm not even going to touch it until I get the brakes sorted. Putting a 450HP motor in a car with an iffy brake pedal isn't a good idea.
