removed carb today took it apart blew out the idle circuit and everything else reset it timed it at 32 deg total but it seems the it likes the mixture screws out about 3 turns idles ok at that no pinging under load timing at idle is abot 15 degrees at 900 to a 1000 rpm with vac advance blocked off runs well through the rev range but still has a bit of a surge or miss while holding a steady speed
a lead breaking down maybe when hot , temp runs at a quarter constant

Do you have another carb to check against yours..? used to find that my clevelands where susceptible to arking between the leads creating a miss i.e. running on 7.

Picking up on what PP is saying, run the car in the dark and check to see if any lead or plug is arching. You will the a blue glow around the plug or the arching off a lead.

The guaranteed way to check if leads are faulty is to wet your hands, fire up the engine. Now massage the wires wetting your hands constantly. Make sure you have someone filming. This is most important.

Perhaps you should make and Jacko could star in said video, I'm sure Hybrid would put it in the tech section......

I'm more than happy to video it. Who's the volunteer with the wet hands?

Not necessarily - it could be that the idle jet is too small.
It could also be an air leak somewhere so the idle mixture needs to be rich to make up for it.

Have you still got the 570? Mild 351 I'd have at least 650 DP on it. I do have 600 you can borrow if you want give that a go. Just so see if it change anthing. Its like 6 month of use on it so pretty new.

yep the 570 was a pretty good fit with the old engine i think the idle circuit maybe a little small as it runs awesome up top but you feel theres more potential to be had if i cant get one over here i will take you up on that i am ordering new leads 1st try that if theres any vac leaks they are coming from the underside of the manifold as there are none up top ,there is just something off something small as overall it goes well

I'm coming to Caboolture to night maybe to pick up a car for my daughter. I'd really put a 700 on it but your welcome to have a go at the 600vac carb, a bloke owed me money on an engine build so he gave me this.
