So got my 66. Here's what I have done for rego

Changed headlights to Aussie inserts.
Made sure all lights are working (the American way)
degreased engine and under car. No rust found yet.
Stamped engine number with last 6 of VIN(front of block behind alternator).
Tightened loose front wheel bearing adjustment
removed American seat belts front and rear
got washers working and horn.

Will get weigh bridge cert tomorrow on way to pits. I will take title, weigh bridge cert and import approval with me to lic centre.

Anything else I have forgotten?

Also whats the go with the seats free to tilt with no lock, is this normal?

if you still have access to the stamps, put the first 2 digits of the cars vin before the sequential number.

e.g. Vin - 6R01C123456
engine stamp 6R123456

this is the way engine stamps are done by factory on later models. if you haven't already told them the other rego number, try and fix that up.

the seats are fine. they are originally like that so will pass. 68 seats are low back with latches, or the 69-70 highbacks have very similar locking mechanisms if you wish to upgrade for safety reasons later on. but for rego this won't be required.

Bugger I don't have the space to carry out that correction, maybe I could put it at the end?

Do I need to fit an immobiliser?
Will update what work order I get tomorrow night.

In that case, dont worry, unless they ask you to stamp something else.

Good question about imobiliser. Someone else closer to being on road should be able to help you with that one

No, you don't need an immobiliser for rego.
Weighbridge certificate? Do you really need it?
Engine number should be fine as is.

Ill tell ya fellas a funny story... i was driving in my '66 coupe - I was stopped at the booze bus... a rookie cop (obv a newbie) came over...asked me to blow into the bag...no worries.... thats when i got interesting...

She said ' you've obv had nothing to drink but Im going to give you a $90 fine + 2 points for no seat belt!!!! i said ' I dont think so....' She said... ' dont get smart or you'll be in more trouble....' i said ' i have a lap seat belt on... have a look'

She got closer to the car, shon the light over...and there she saw my lap seat belt.... She said and i quote ' thats not a seat belt....' you've obv made that!!!!!'....

I said.... ' go get someone with authority over here!!' I was lets say...upset!

One of the senior guys got about 15 feet from the car and said 'goodnight Sir..... have a nice evening' ... i gave him the knod and drove off...

Moral of story..... modern day traffic cops need to realise cars werent first manufactured in 1990!... it was borderline incompetance!

PS: Get over the shoulder seatbelts...purely for safety! and enjoy!

Looks pretty good, it may depend on the traffic office or even the individual inspecting the car for some items.
We use the Kelmscott licensing branch and they do require the RH door mirror (safety issue as thats your traffic side.) The seatbacks being free is no issue. They DONT require a weight certificate for a 66. They DO require clear lens on the front parklight/indicators. All paper work including a receipt stating your name, the sellers name and amount clearly (I failed that point and had to chase up a new receipt).

The headlight inserts I got have park light globes in them, maybe I should wire the park lights to the new headlights? I thought the lights had to stay the same as the yanks intended?

I just got my 67 licensed finally here's what I had to do.

1. Front Headlamps changed over to Australia standards.
2. I had to break up my rear indicator/break lamps ( I have the Eleanor style lights)
3. Had to fit a washer bottle
4.Like the other guys have mentioned make sure there are no obvious oil leaks or structural rust otherwise you'll need to fix that as well.
5. Depending on how loud it is you might get told to make it quite it down.

I went to Welshpool and I must say the guys there gave me a pretty hard time. But everyone has different luck.

If you can move the park lights to the headlights that will be fine. Thats their gripe, you cant have coloured front park lamps.
Clear lenses should be available from any of the Perth Mustang stockists.

Well after waiting in line at Welshpool for hours and realising the Guys are on a go slow I gave up. It was painfull to watch them. Two guys would only work at one time, two guys would come out and do two cars then they would go inside and two ther guys would come out 1/2 hour later and the same would happen again ,when I did the math I realised they would get to me at 8pm tonight.

Made an appointment at another branch next friday.

Gives me a chance to fix park lights and a few other things for the next event.
