thanks for that. Might have to check the DSO on Johns car but that link is for 289/302. Johns is a S code 390

Im pretty sure it should have the 3 lines at the back end of the tail shaft and 3 on the leaf springs behind the the shock plate...just cant remember

Unfortunately no one documents this. The MCA and judges somehow refuse to write it down...

Have:

front springs: yellow/green 1/2" brush about 1/2" apart. Painted on with spring upside down, flat top down for stability while painting and both the same so reversed when installed. But the Concors Mustang site gurus indicate pink/gold, but have also heard of violet/gray and seen tan/yellow... so it gets messy as the "experts" don't even agree.

rear springs orange/white - two lines across the spring, about 1/2" wide about 1" behind the mounting plate and about 1/2" apart. (have also seen tan/yellow on a 390, options not known)

rear shock : brown, blob on rear inner part of lower end of shock tube above mounting plate.

Drive shaft lt blue/dk blue/ lt "u"(?)/red (Prefix - LTBLUDB Suffix-LURD)

This was from the build sheet I sent you. 68 S code convertible, PS, PB, C6, HD Suspension, Metuchen, May build

Have seen only a few driveshaft yokes, most orange on the yoke and a yellow daub over it. one ref in the GT/CS book shows a red blot on the rear of the shaft near the u joint.

Diff with a yellow blob (looks like a quick splat with a 1/2" brush) yellow on the lh side (under the car facing rearward rh side mid section, about 1" blob at about the 3 o'clock position on the flat inside of the nuts.

Engine should have "O-K" on LH valve cover, RH facing rearward) on front face of cover.

Many rear axle tubes had a green stripe, about 1/4" wide near the breather, generally to the outside but about 1" or so.

It’s a hard matrix.

I see these questions a lot and I've started a spreadsheet, so if anyone has 100% known original markings (on any 65-68) let me know and I'll add it to the very short list.

Forgot to add my 68 S GT 4 speed coupe has seafoam or lt green (I think, very faint on origianl) at the front, then lt blue, white, pink from front to rear. SFG is 9" back from edge of driveshaft (welded rim, not yoke) then 17 1/2", 20 1/2" 23 1/2" for the rest.

Didn’t realize that its been so long since I updated this. For all in the know, the car is currently in LA in consolidation awaiting a vessel for Melbourne Australia. I didn’t get a chance to finish it 100% as John wanted it for the December holidays so he has his work cut out for him when it gets there. (have fun with the windows John)

Anyway, there is a tonne of photo’s that I loaded to John’s photo bucket of all the stages of where I got the car to. Allthough its complete in the last photo, there is still a pile of work to be done. For everyone that didn’t know, an editor from a mustang magazine over here was following this thread and had planned to do a shoot on the car once it was finished but time constraints on the build got in the way. Bit of a shame due to the hard work into the car aswell as it would have been cool for John to not even have his car yet but its available on the shelves in a magazine.

We’ll sort something out John. You just take care of the rest.

Anyway, here’s a few random pics from October until current

The caution decal actually doesn’t go there on a 68 from factory. If it was put on, it was done at a dealership

Loaded John’s first trophy ( aheap of original parts) and a complete collection of Mustang Monthly for god know how many years that Sherm at Sunstate gave me. Thought John could use them

Even found one that had Johns name on it (John’s Mustang)

Threw in a dodgy lookin galaxie centre consol just to give John somewhere to balance his beer until he gets an original 68 centre consol

THE END.

Im sure John will add to this thread as there is still a bucket load of work to be done. The paint is my biggest concern. As you all know I wasn’t happy twice with the painter and then he packed shop and split town. We got most of the orange peel out but never got around to doing the hood so that needs to be wet sanded and polished to match the rest of the car. Even though Thirsty390 when he was here didn’t notice anything with the paint….I knew it was there

I will throw up a list for John of the window list I had going so he always knows where it is and what else needs to be done when I get a chance.

Enjoy your car John. I think after working on it for 3 solid days you will appreciate what is really involved in getting an old car restored. It isn’t a 1 week overhaulin show

And…if Im down in Melbourne in Jan….I will be sure to spend a few days with you helping finish it off (something I really wanted to achive) 

Matt that looks terrific. You have done a great job there and I'm sure John will be very happy. The interior looks spot on and is the colour combo I am going for with my project - one day.

Cheers Mate, sit back, put your feet up and sink an ale or two...

Aesome job Matt. I've been following this build from the start and can appreciate how pissed you must have been with the painter. You've still managed to create one hell of a beautiful car. Must be tough to see it go.

Matt i cant thank you enough for your efforts over the last 21 months and don't worry Maddy is in good hands.
In a way i am glad its not completely finished as it gives me an opportunity to have some input to the project and increase my knowledge of these classic cars.
If you do make it to sunny Melbourne in jan and you need somewhere to crash you are always welcome here, we have a spare room and a car a garage fridge and a unfinished mustang what moor could a bloke want.
Maddy was booked to leave cali on the 26th nov but we have been bumped by extra containers of grog, food, and Christmas presents.
bullshit i say someone in there needs to get there priorities right :sarcasm:
i will post when we have a new sail date.

Lewy, yes it was mate. It was sooo very close but so far away.

I had it booked for a photo shoot with Mustang Magazine or mustang Monthly...cant remember which one. .. They were following this thread also, and commented on the intricate detail and love put into the car

Thought that would be a good little present for John seeing as he was EXTEMELY patient with the whole process..... Seeing his car in a mag and he hasnt even drivin it yet.

John....stop it...you had me at fridge
