I know a guy that makes a little kit you can wire in that allows you to use the sport shift on the btr's. You use one of the ba shifters, and then with this kit, you can flick it over to sports tiptronic and go through the gears up and down. I had one but sold it. You should do it.

Cool - I did not know about that particular kit so thanks.

Now my problem with it starts with the top mount for the upper arm. The early kits were the worst. This long tube it the issue.

This is always what I always look at first. It has no where near enough support and will bend and flex. See the above picture.

Now compare it to this structure;

The support is far superior. Naturally it depends on need and purpose and it may not be an issue. You could modify to improve with a triangular support section along the tube tied back to the shock upright.

Is it a whole loom or just wires into the main loom?

Because I am on a bit of a time limit, I will have to buy a stand alone loom rather than splicing it myself. I have found a guy in Melbourne who does a stand alone loom although not sure if it has the tiptronic. I will be using the BA shifter and graft it into a custom console.

Nah it's a stand alone box that just wires into the main loom.
I attached a pic of the setup I sold when I decided to sell the btr and go T5. It's the box on the right. The middle box was an electronic shift kit.
He also has a small digital display that also attaches to the box that will display what gear you are in if you are that way inclined.
I was going to replace the silver plastic on the shifter with the chrome pieces you can see, cheap on ebay.

I will have a chat with the guy who is doing my wiring, he should be able to leave the tiptronic on.

I just did quick search for the chrome pieces but couldnt find the insert

Thats a good idea to support the top arm mount, wouldnt be hard to make a gusset between it and the chassis. Will post up some pics once done.

Got a bit more of the front end in today. I think if I did it again I would be going for a TCI or TCP clip, the crossmember and shock mounts have taken a bit of playing to get right especially given the instructions leave a lot to the imagination.

Great stuff. Many checks then double checks before final weld. This well be an interesting build.

Sorry mate I just realised you are using the BA stuff already. The kit was for pre-BA to be able to retrofit the tiptronic. Silly me.

Tacked the rack in, this thing sits way higher than I thought it would. I'm now thinking I will have to change to a FG sump with the rear pick up. Is getting pretty exciting though seeing it progress.

Are all three pivot points on the same plane? aka top arm, lower arm and rack.

For bump steer?
Probably a good idea to check all that now before it goes too far.
