I'm replacing to spear-o-matic manual steering setup with a 68 collapsible column, borgeson box and a holden astra electric pump.
Still need to work out where I'm going to hide the pump, probably under a fender (with protection) or behind the grille.
Any suggestions on mounting the column to the dash? It needs to be able to only move forward in a crash.

Mount the column in the standard way at the dash. You also need to make a mount where it goes through the firewall.
The column does not collapse from the dash mount to the wheel, but absorbs the impact between the firewall mount and the dash mount.

Use the 65 top mount, and you can use a falcon bottom mount and gasket or an Ididit mount, which you could make easy google it

I've got an XF floor mount that I'll adapt to fit at the bottom.

You will also need to double the thickness in the area where the column comes through the firewall. 68 and later Mustangs we're done that way for their columns

Thanks Kerry, I'll need to add a plate for the bracket anyway so I'll make it a decent size one.

I picked up a standard bore C6AE-6015-C block so I can test fit headers, trans, pulleys etc.
It's got some surface rust, so will be soaking in some molasses for a couple of weeks before coming out for a decent scrub.

Standard bore early block, that's a good find. If you are going to end up using those Canfieled heads, make sure you test your pipes with those as the have a slightly raised exhaust port like the larger AFR heads do. I was down at Exhaust Innovations Yesterday mine is booked in early September for the custom headers, I had Bryan swage my flowmaster pipe to fit the Race pro mufflers. Still cant decide if I get him to put a cage in the car as well.

It will need to be bored if I use it instead of your bottom end Shaun.

Yep but is a good start, and torque plate bore and hone is a bit over $400 so no big deal. Early blocks are better then a roller block, much stronger
