Hi all, well i had it running for a while in the garage to do a systems check and sort out the idle.
I just couldn't get it to idle and then it was fueling up so i got a kit for the carb and will do that tonight. I think the power valve is shot
There is hope for tomorrow i guess, i think having setbacks working on the Mustang is all a part of it and better than a day doing anything else (except maybe family time) but hey the wife and kids are welcome to come down and join in the festival of noise if they want!!! :cheer:

Thanks for all the encouragement

I am planning to get a permit for Saturday to get this silver machine on the road and due to the fact that my last permit was wasted i gave it a quick run up my street tonight
Everything seems great so far and should be good for Saturday.
My neighbours may not like me anymore
It sounds great and with the 2500 stall in it seems a good match up.

These words can't possibly express my excitement, although small that was my first drive post rebuild and Sat will be fun.
Of course i will be putting a few addresses on the permit that i "need" to go to for repairs which should give me a good radius to drive.

Happy days
Thanks for all the help i have received.
Cheers Jason

Yesterday was one of the best days of the project, I did about 180km total and was so impressed with the performance.
I always play things down in my mind so i don't get disappointed and it exceeded all of my hopes.
Performance is great and the whole combo of goodies it has works really well.
It is well worth it.
Now i am sitting at home looking in the garage  wondering why i didn't get another day on the permit, it would have cost $25 more :argh:

Awesome stuff mate, I'm jealous. Only 12 months of work left on mine and I might be able to share the excitement

Thanks very much, it is the day we all have wanted at some point in the journey, I know there are much nicer Mustangs than mine and gruntier ones too but this does me fine.
I do sometimes wish i went down a different path with the original purchase but i bought it before internet was around and had no idea when i reached LA. Still i own a Mustang and i think that is what we are all in this game for.
All the best in your journeys

Mate your car looks bangers,
That first drive will make it all worthwhile. I have my own project, and look forward to the day it even looks like a car again..let alone the day i drive it.

enjoy chum

Hi all, a couple of weeks ago i ran some Tectaloy Mukout through the radiator to flush it before putting the first coolant in.
It did a good job but i was getting dirty oily water after it.
Well my worst fears have hit me this morning, i am sure it's a head gasket.

I didn't run it in there anymore than it instructed so i assume the mukout didn't cause it?

I at first thought it may be the trans oil leaking in the Radiator but nooo the water and engine oil are swimming together. I will talk to my mechanic Mon but this sounds costly. I was only taking it around the block once a week so i haven't driven far since the permit day and i haven't noticed the water level dropping.

What a setback, so disappointed. Looks like no Nationals for me :argh:

Wait until you get the mechanic's verdict before worrying any further. If it is a head gasket, that is no big deal & you would still make the Nats.

Just a little update, i spoke to the mechanic today and he says that being a windsor the trouble could be the inlet manifold gasket, lets hope so.
It is booked for next Mon so i am hoping to get off ok.
It was running hot so i just wonder if the gasket was on right, i heard they can be put the wrong way around and block a water passage? Does that sound right?
Hope i have a win next week
