I'll check my marti report and see what it says, but pretty sure they do state it as an option. My car was DSO 71 sold new by Dunton ford Santa Anna, it certainly had smog gear. 67 car built Nov 66 at SanJose. I have the smog gear if you want it. I would have thought it would have come with it.
Anway don't loose any sleep over your engine it's fine for a rebuild, I'd hide a few improvement inside that no one can see, to bump the hp up a little. Still have that 3:1 Diff if Kerry sells me his LSD

CA cars came with smog systems from 66 on. By the 68 model all would have been equipped with "Positive Crankcase Ventilation System" & "Thermactor Exhaust Emission Control System". So the heads would be set up that way.

I can see one over there, but I do not think it is a "slippery' so have to look further. :outtahere:

No rush Kerry :)
My car had the smog air pump, close crankcase etc air injection not via the heads but the overhead plubing into the EX ports.

I've still got my eye on that 3:1. I got a basic marti for a canadian sold 68 i almost bought. It specifys a non-emission system. It was a 6cyl so might have a different setup.

any other 68 owners with marti's able to confirm if their smog system is on their marti report?

From this link...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_emissions_control

The first legislated exhaust (tailpipe) emission standards were promulgated by the State of California for 1966 model year for cars sold in that state, followed by the United States as a whole in model year 1968. The standards were progressively tightened year by year, as mandated by the EPA.

That means from Sept 67 on they all had it.

Was that all cars produced for sale ex us also? I can remember what the tag said. Its in the pics. I know its j code with air, but can't remember if it decoded as non smog.

i do know that it was compulsary in us sold cars in all 68's as above.

Is there any evidence that this engine had its smog setup removed?

If it was built on a US production line, then it had smog as to build others would not make economic sense. Cannot stop a 3 factory X 500 car per day production just because a car is going to Canada.

As for Mustangs built in Mexico or Peru, that is a different story.

By 68 it was all external stuff that could be unbolted. Smog heads with the tubes on a 289 was 67 only.

I agree, it doesn't make economical sense, but like you said before on the 69 model they were rationalising options into packages, such as mach 1, but 68 there still was a bunch of options available. Which is also shown on the 1 of 1 stats of the marti for my car.

I think i will send an email to kevin and see if he can find the correct missing numbers from the engine number, then send me the report for the car it came in.

i know j codes were only 68, were they also only mustang?

Am I missing something??
What does it matter what the motor (or car it came from) came with.. but what your car came with? Thats what you're trying to match isnt it ??

Correct, i am just very curious. I'm not here to argue but to discuss differences. I will try and track one down any way. Better to be correct than incorrect.
