Re: Nicks 68 Fastback Restomod
It had had new inner & outer wheel arches fitted on one side. They had sort of been joined somewhere near where required.
The 2 holes should line up

Fixed ready to be reinstalled a bit later, the copper coloured stuff is a weld through primer. It stops rusting between welded panels.

Re: Nicks 68 Fastback Restomod
$3500 is ok I reckon, cheaper than a donner car and it's new.
Re: Nicks 68 Fastback Restomod
You still need to consider the front rails, towers etc. The donor car still has its place. This car the floor piece is the way to go because its getting the RRS rhd sheetmetal kit put in along with the notched towers. So a fair whack of the donor would go in the bin. It still needs front rails & skirt sections, but that isnt a major given everything else that is happening.
If the car was going back to original LHD a donor car would have been the go. Like you say though, its all new. I was kissed on the dick by a fairy with the donor shell I got for my car. I have tried to get others for different things & they all need work anyway so it defeats the purpose. Buying all the steel parts for this car worked out similar to the cost of my donor shell anyway (less the RRS stuff) That includes outer sheetmetal as well which you still need on a donor anyway. The labour is intensive either way as well.
So you would be right, probably cheaper in the end either way. I think you would only bother with a donor on something concourse like a Boss, Cobra Jet or Shelby & then only if you got one as good as mine or what Kerry got for Q.

Re: Nicks 68 Fastback Restomod
Nearly all the structural issues & rust have now been removed.

Ahh, just a walk in the park guys, as Steve will tell you, no different to replacing a panel.... OK maybe a little heavier to lift into place....jusTANG wrote:![]()

Having a jig (or in Steve's case a Car-O-Liner) really helps. His boys straightened up one that I have just finished suspension mods to & knowing all was in its correct place really helps. That car now steers & drives beautifully...

However it is frightening for the uninitiated to watch...

A bit more fiddling about getting it in the right spot & then a bit of welding. Once its tacked in we can plate the rust in the forward hinge pillar supports. The outer sills were plated from the inside so it could be rustproofed before it was all boxed in. Didnt get any pics, young Jake did it too fast. God bless his little cotton socks
