cage wrote:Well I started to run some numbers on the engine yesterday and have figured out that it is a 68 engine from an XT. Joined the Ford Forum and started asking some questions :help: and apparantly there were only two motors it could be, a 188 (not very good) or a 221 (pick of the ford 6cyl I was told and fairly rare). This is where you guys will be proud of me as I had to get my hands dirty to find out which one it was.

In order to find out I needed to measure the stroke (what the?). Anyway the guys on the forum told me how to do it which was all dutch to me but I thought I would give it a crack.

Pulled the spark plug out, manually turned the engine over and made measurements on a piece of wire from an old coat hanger (thanks Steve for that one) at both the top and bottom of the stroke and found out that it measured exactly 88mm. Looks like I have the very sort after 221 motor. :dance2:

Got my hands all dirty and felt very proud of myself I must say. Anyway I thought I would share my good fortune with you guys and now I am excited to maybe getting some quality grunt out of this engine. :headbang:
Cheers boys.
Well done, IMO the pick of the Aussie (ford) 6's. Its more commonly known as the 3.6 and coupled with the 250 2v head it is a weapon.

This was my 200 ci std XM motor, cortina webber twin carb with new Genie 6 into 2 headers and a twin system i grabbed of another wreck i had.
The donor twin system was 1 3/4" no balance pipe and stainless turbo mufflers.
It didnt sound too good and gave that Kacky sound higher revs, it needed 2" pipes a 1" balance pipe like my XT had, and bigger deeper note mufflers.
Of corse it was still just a std cam 200 motor, and a 221 or 250 with 2v head will sounds better.

Now all I need is a 250 2v head. Anyone got one?

haha sorry guys, but neither of them sound like V8's.
At idle they sound OK, but the minute you touch the accelerator, it's obvious.
To me anyway... maybe it's my music background.

Here is a V8 revving. Listen to them together. Sorry fellas

Did some work on the XP today, or should I say took some things apart. I have taken a lot of the inside chrome trim off and while they look pretty good they have lost alot of their shine. What is the best way and the best stuff to use to get back the luster on these chrome pieces. Cheers

I went to bunnings and bought a calico wheel and a polish wheel for the bench grinder and the portable drill. Then some cutting compound and some polish, took a while but come up a treat.

half way through is photo of the mirrors...... probably have others maybe on the other site or in my photobucket.

Just my 2 cents worth
Cheers,
j

Did some work on the interior today to see if I could clean up the seats. Bought some vinyl cleaner and plenty of elbow grease and I was very happy with the results.

Unforunately the back seats have worn and sunburn marks on it that have sucked the colour out. As the seats are in good nick is there anyway I can get the colour back on them ie paint or do I need to get them redone?
