THERE IS A SCOTT DRAKE PART AVAILABLE....B1AZ-3518-A WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT FITS INSIDE THE UPPER BEARING.ANY IDEAS?hybrid wrote:Depending on the model, the upper steering bearing should be surrounded by a rubber cup if it's a normal looking ball bearing like this:
The early models had a different type of bearing like this:
The early ones did not have the bushing.
If the play is on the inside of the bearing and your column is collapsible, the shaft may need to come out further.

If you still have the original long steering shaft box, then yes that is it.rock66 wrote:THERE IS A SCOTT DRAKE PART AVAILABLE....B1AZ-3518-A WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT FITS INSIDE THE UPPER BEARING.ANY IDEAS?hybrid wrote:Depending on the model, the upper steering bearing should be surrounded by a rubber cup if it's a normal looking ball bearing like this:

Re: Random Questions
Sorry rock, that was missing on mine, so I didn't know about it.
I shouldn't ever figure that my car was a good example in any sense because it was terrible in every sense.
I've got a 68 column in mine now, so it's all different.

Re: Random Questions
I think I have one here if you get desperate. Just not sure it is the correct one but sure looks like it.
Car looks great.

Re: Random Questions
Thanks Nassi, custom mustangs have one. Just need some Bullit mirrors and bumper overriders and the parts shopping is nearly finished.

Re: Random Questions
Anyone know what Aussie spec rear wheel bearings and axle seals will match those of a 69 Mach 1 ( 28 spline 9 inch w/drum brakes )
Living the dream.
1969 Mach 1 351c
1970 Fastback 302w
1971 Fastback 351c

Re: Random Questions
You could just grab the bearing numbers off the existing ones.
Not sure about the 9", but I know some 8" have separate oil seals and others are built in to the bearing.

Re: Random Questions
Aren't the early 9" small bearing diffs the same as the 8"?
Re: Random Questions
Wouldn't surprise me.. same spline axles.
Re: Random Questions
Pretty sure when I did my '70 Mach 1, when I looked up the numbers at the local bearing centre the kits were the same as '69-'70 GT Falcon.
