The Tint Master is responsible for the latter. This is the first time I have seen the flecks at night- usually has to be in the sun.

any lower and she will not get into the driveway. I have already fitted a guard to protect one of the header pipes that hang a little low. Besides, with H and I in the car it drops it a couple of mm; won't say on which side.

How many people have experienced dodgy fuel sender floats purchased from NPD (probably SD items)?

Earlier you may recall the story of the sinking float. Well bugger me if it has not happened again. Thought I had run out of fuel on the weekend only to panic to a service station to refuel. Gauge did not move.

When I got home I shorted the sender wire and the gauge works fine.

Syphoned the tank today (no it does not have a drain plug) and pulled the sender. After bathing in 98RON, yep, float was happily sloshing with fuel inside. Checked it in a pot of warming water and found a pin hole sized leak from the body of the float. Oddly, not near the soldered joins.

Anyone else had a similar experience or series of failures? Is there a plastic replacement for these things?

I have not had a faulty new brass unit. I do have a plastic one if you want it.

Yes they do have plastic ones.
Was the hole in the detent where the float arm holds the float? I have seen a few worn through in that area.

If you want to have a go at repairing the float you can try this.
Suspend the float in boiling water, this will boil off the fuel out though the pin hole. Keep pulling it out and check it until nearly all the fuel is gone. (got to leave a small amount in the float).
Get the area of the pin hole clean and solder the hole.
Put it back in the boiling water to be sure its plugged.
If careful not to load it with to much solder,, the weight of the solder and the little amount of fuel left in the float shouldn't have any significant effect on the accuracy of the gauge.

Hey Nuts, thanks but I ordered one from a GT Falcon store. Have written to JT noting this is the second one to stuff-up.

Ants, might give that a go just to see if I can fix the thing- (was going to write fucker but not sure if that is allowed). Why do I want fuel in the float?
