Forgotton Password Issue

Post by jademustang »

forgot my password so I used the link for this and got the code emailed to me. the email gave this link http://www.mustangtech.com.au/Your_Account.html to click on but on that page there is nowhere to proceed (to enter the new code). just goes round in circles sending new password

Hi mate,
after you are sent back to the website, there is a confirmation code that needs to be entered. The code should have been sent to you in the email.

So instead of requesting another password reset, put the confirmation code in the box provided.

Are you sure there is no confirmation code in the email?

Did you also send an email via the Contact Us link?
I helped someone recently with this exact issue.

What is the username you're trying to log in as? I'll look up emails that were sent out to your username and see if there is a code in there.

opps meant to say confirmation code instead of password.
as you can see with the screen shot I can enter the confirmation code then the only option is to click on send password!

Strange.
So you have put the confirmation code in and then hit the button to see what happens?

It may just be that I need to rename that button to "Submit" or something a bit more generic.

the send password button needs to be renamed "login" with the correct link then assigned to it.

Ok, I just tested this myself.
It doesn't need to be renamed login, because you aren't trying to log in there.
All you are doing is getting your password reset. The confirmation code is not your password. It's a confirmation code that is used to make sure your email address is correct.

The procedure is explained at the top of the page, but here it is anyway.
1) You click the lost password link.
2) You enter your forum username, OR email address
Image
3) Press Send Password - A confirmation code is sent to your registered email address
4) Type your username and confirmation code into the respective boxes and Press Send Password

A new password is then sent to your email address, which you can use to log in.
Once you have logged in, you can go to "My Account" and then "My Registration Details" and change your password to whatever you like.

I should also explain why it's done this way in a 2 step process.

We need to verify that it is really you requesting a password change, otherwise anybody could click the lost password link, put your email address in, and the system would change your password and send it to you in an email.

If somebody does that, you will get a confirmation email sent to you, but the password will not get changed unless you go back to the website with the confirmation code. So you can ignore the confirmation code if you did not request a password change, and your password will not be reset.
