Engine Sizes and Fitting???

Post by Kosa »

question for all the mustang Engine bay know-how guys, What sized engine can be fit into what model mustangs pre-1973 without engine bay modifications, with minor modifications and with large modifications.

for example, can a 428 fit into a 1964-1966 mustang, if not, how can it be done/or can it be done? etc.

out with the shock towers Koza and a different front end on the 64-66

Pretty sure the 351 Windsor will fit snugly but a clevo will not..never done it though...are you thinking of more out put?

Have a chat with Hybrid...hes building a bit of a stinker for his bus.

You could always twin turbo a 289 and stroke it a tad

something Im considering in my mustang ute..mind you I can fit a 428 in that as Im cutting out the shock towers and putting in a different front end set up in it and going RHD over here

Think 351 windsor is about as big as you can squeeze in there mate without fabbing up the front end to accomadate something bigger

I have a 351w in mine, and a 351c will fit, but a 351 boos style motor won't.

"Anything is possible....it just costs more"

saw that on another site somewhere

Yours is auto so I think its very possible to squeeze in 2 bike helmets on each side but the manifolds would be an expensive exercise

allways wanted to do that with a mustang

what are you considering?

For a streeter, you can't go past a log manifold, with either 1 or 2 turbo's. On an 8.2" windsor, you would be able to do it with a standard engine bay, I reckon.
I think a nice GT42 sitting in the battery tray would be ideal.

Well you can get 500+hp out of a well built stock (two bolt) block..
http://www.airflowresearch.com/articles ... 9/A-P1.htm

or with after market block and a hair dryer or two.. 1000HP! 8O
http://airflowresearch.com/articles/article055/A-P1.htm

331 Stroker is the way to go Kosa..
Reliable Rev Demon !

Mexican Block is just that.. block cast in Mehico..

As per Performance Parts Interchange:

The 302 block was virtually unchanged through 1975. In your search for a 302 block, we suggest
the use of the high nickel content blocks produced from mid-1967 through the early 1970s. One
alternative, though not always easy to find, are the 302 blocks cast in Mexico. A number of these
blocks found their way into U.S.-built Fords and Mercurys. These Mexican blocks weigh more, but
they offer strength in a heavier casting, thus being more suitable for high-performance use.

Birchy, our race engine, is a stock stroke 330ci 8.2" deck, with big bores.
With single turbo, made a Moroso calculated 1600hp. It is an awesome deal, reliable, under stressed, turn key and run.

8O 8O 8O

Thats unreal.. can you share more details?
Heads, Turbo ??
Maybe elsewhere to prevent thread jack...

If I was going to go a 347 thats the way I'd do it.. 331 stroke in a big bore 8.2" block. I read somewhere that 331 has the most ideal rod length.. something to do with rod to stroke ratio?? I'm not sure.. im no builder.. just read a lot.

I don't know a whole lot, but it is Trickflow heads, Super Victor manifold, FAST EFI, C16 fuel, Aftermarket block, solid roller cam, and I think it's a 98mm non roller turbo, with water to air cooler. It ran 7.9 at 184mph, on 15lb upto 28lb, on 10.5" tyres, at 3550lb.
We run it at 10lb - 15lb, at the moment, and it runs 8.5's at 166mph. The boost controller adds boost in as we go, to try and feed the power in as the tyres can handle it.
