Marc's 67 clone

Post by m67gl »

I've had this car for a few years and have been buying bits to finish the front half of the car from this

I still need some parts like light weight hood springs (thanks Kerry). Hood pin extension brackets, inboard headlight brackets and hood latch. It will be a slow process but any advice would be helpful. I'm used to working with timber not cars. If it all goes to plan I will sell off some of the old parts on the car ATM, like R type valance, Headlamp buckets and surrounds, Billet grill, etc. I am anxious about starting, because that means I won't be able to drive as much whist I'm trying to get the job finished. Got a club run next weekend so will not start for at least a fortnight.

The engine was rebuilt when I bought it. The 80 yr old owners son had a hot rod shop in Highland CA. Mild cam 289, FB4 intake with a 600 holley. Cobra dress up kit included. Been thinking of upgrading the points and changing the carby (maybe a 500 Edelbrock) I have to get the power valve in the holley checked first. I pretty much just cruise around in it. Got a nice note with the dual exhaust set up, but no pace of the line.

Being a non-standard car, I'd be tempted not to put a pertronix in it.

If you can get the full engine specs, i.e cam grind etc off the engine builder, there are people around that can supply QUALITY chinese distributors that are a copy of the bosch solid state unit, and set the advance curves to suit your engine. Once set up, you won't have to touch it again for years. I did this to my 302W powered patrol and have never been happier. The only problem I have encountered was a coil failure. Might have had something to do with the way it was mounted coupled with a weekend of jumping the car

Donauto here may be able to help you out with supplying and setting up a quality unit, if not I can reccomend someone.

Cheers

Jas, I live about an hour from Donauto, so easy to see him. Will need to get the headlights and highbeams rigged up correctly with relays as well. Last I heard he was selling his not so old Bosch copy now he has the EFI going on. you there Mark ? or are you lurking somewhere else ?

Hey Hey! Thought you must have died. Haven't heard from you for ages. Yep , will get around to selling my bosch copy dizzy/leads/coil. I'm not sure about remapping advance curve on it (although I've modified the vacuum advance a little). Jas , where would you recommend for interest sake?
Never the less , it's a good thing for sure.

Hi Mark, been one thing after another since October last year. I now know how my brother in law (in name only) can race rally cars and even sponsor a rally series. I needed to get into the shed and take my mind of whats been going on. I will try and catch up with you, are you planning on going to the nationals over Easter? I may go up Sunday.

Anyway, after seeing chompmgw pics of his undercarriage I decided to have a look at mine.

I did a bit of cleaning and it looked like this

I'm not sure if that's the original finish, but I'm thinking of leaving it for now. Maybe just treat the few spots of surface rust. I want to take out the diff and rear springs to clean them up like chomps but thats more money and time off the road at the moment.

That is definitely the original finish right down to the paint drips. Leaving it in a "just cleaned" state is worth way more than repainting it when it comes to the cars value.

They are only original once.

I would order them direct from Tony Branda Performance
