Hi guys, ask this same question on the other forum but just thought id check if anyone here has used a gear reduction starter on a auto 302w. I like the look of the cvr starters and also castle auto seem to have a few. Just checking as BLKPNY let me know he had problems with some not meshing so hopeing someone has some good news as to one that has worked for them.
Needs a new remote soleniod plus now running 11.5 to 1 so a new starer can solve both these probs.
Thanks

welcome vibe65 Kerry's around here somewhere
Re: redution starter
thanks mate!
Re: redution starter
Hey vibe, first of all "welcome".
I have had issues with those starters in big block cars, but there is a Mach1 here at the ranch (351W, 5 speed) that has one & it works fine.
From what I know, it is just a matter of correct application & installation. Most I have seen are just a Nissan (or similar) starter with the gear reduction setup. I believe Tilton were the first to make one for the race car crowd, all that followed were copies.

Re: redution starter
thanks for the welcome
What would you recomend doing. Sticking with the orig starter and replacing remote solenoid or going the reduction route and making sure I fit it properly??

Re: redution starter
I have had more joy rebuilding the original or replacing it with the same.

Re: redution starter
Just an update.
Ended up ordering at CVR 5055 reduction starter from rocket about $300. Turned up looked good and sliped straight in, after rotating around 90deg to clear everything.
Got a bit of a work out as the new engine wouldn't start due to idiot who put it in after fixing up a few things it works a treat. Just thought id pass it on if anyone is looking for a reduction starter Im real happy with the CVR.
