Then your casting number would go something like
C9OE-E as an eg.
C for the decade (60's), the 70's is D
9 for the year of that decade.
Anything like that on your heads?

Nassi

The numbers i posted last night were taken from tappet side of heads as heads are still attached to engine.
I have found out that they are a 75 model head.
With out removing starter motor i am trying to confirm if the engine is a 351w.
I have carried out referance checks from information recieved :
1. Deck height - have measured from top of sump housing (bottom of block) to top of block in way of manifold - roughly 9.5"
2. The width of the manifold at highest point 302 - 235mm , mine -260mm
3. Distributor entry point on block - 1/2 high casting rib checks out
4.Thermostat housing - lower housing bolt on 302 can not be removed with socket gets caught on water pump housing , 351w no issue with clearance, information recieved does not state if it is with a stock manifold, there may be no differance between stock & aftermarket.
5.Head bolts 351 - 1/2 bolt 3/4 or 13/16 hex , 302 3/8 bolts 5/8 or 11 /16 hex. Head bolt on currents 11/16 so this is the confusing part.

Block seems to be a 351w but not to sure on the heads though.

Any additional info / feed back would be appreciated as i want to confirm motor size before i place a order for head package.

cheers

You should be able to get a semi-accurate measurement of the stroke through the spark plug holes shouldn't you?

OK with a deck height of 9.5 inches it is a 351.
221 - 302 have adeck height of 8.2 inches.

The heads are quite possibly 289/302 as this has been a common mod over the years.

have you lifted arocker cover? as sometimes the size is cast there.

cheers.

Yeah just put some welding rod etc through the hole and turn the engine until you find TDC and BDC.. mark the spots on the rod, then remove it and measure between them. It won't be 100%, but hopefully accurate enough to tell if its 351 or not.

By the way, 351 will have a 3.5inch stroke, 302 3inch, 289 2.87.

Might need to have a few goes to make sure you're getting a decent reading.
