Brandy has a friend

Post by cage »

Well, I have officially joined the ranks of multiple classic car ownership and Brandy now has a friend. Yesterday I bought a 1966 XP Fairmont for my son's birthday. He is only 11 but he was over the moon.

It was a opportunist buy and I just couldn't pass it up. It is not perfect by any means but it is a very solid starting point and is currently registered. I drove it all the way from Penrith back to my house in Sutherland which is about an hour and she didn't miss a beat and I have driven her all day today and so far so good.

Dropped into Steve's to show him on the way home and he has given it the thumbs up so that will do for me. Lucky I did as when he saw it he noticed that the front wheels had some negative camber and I noticed a rubbing noise from the front left. He sent it across the road to Jax and they gave it a wheel alignment and luckily found the noise problem. It was a wheel nut that had come loose and it was rolling around in the hub caps. Anyway I am a very happy owner, some pics are below.

I almost guessed XP! Would be a familiar site around st marys, so they would definately grow on you. Will check the pics on the pc. Congrats!

The kid will never get any pocket money now he has to pay rego every year till hes old enough to drive it... And I cant imagine insurance would be cheap for an 11yr old!

Sweet! I've got a white fairmont here at work for the last couple of months that's 9/10's restored. I didn't believe they were the original reverse lamps til i saw yours.

It's a good bit of gear, just needs a few little things sorted & keep driving it. No need to break the bank on this car. If Cage didn't buy it I reckon I would have.

Thanks guys, no restomodding this one, going to keep it fairly original. Little bit of rust here and there that we will fix and then blend in the paint. A bit of work in the interior maybe get the seats retrimmed as they are a bit warn and marked up, some new shocks and mechanical bits and pieces and she is done. Low cost cruiser this one.

Mark, apparantly the reverse lights were factory optional extras on the Fairmonts.
