Cruzn66
Well Cruzn66, stable mate to Cruzn65 was released and delivered to my place last Friday. That is the good news. Bad news is I was made redundant same day.
Saturday Mikes68 came over for a bopeep. I hadn't bothered to look at it much before that given the circumstances of the previous day. Anyway we went through the inspection.
Using Mikes experience at discovering rust (he can smell it like beer at brewery) we crawled in and under Cruzn66, the A-code 2 owner.
Bad - rust
I didnt expect anything less, I knew the hood was shot and there was surface rust. It isn't that bad actually given the price I paid for the car.
1. 10 cent sized spit in the trunk drop off,
2. a small hole in the quarter on the same side.
3. The passenger door might be repairable but probably easier and cheaper to get a 2nd hand rust free door.
4. There is another small hole in the passenger floor pan, but not serious. 5. The fender apron around the battery needs replacing
6. There is another weep hole up front that is a little crusty
7. we did the bucket of water in the cowl test....... and Mike thought it funny to tell me it was leaking when infact it was not.... I poured the water while he checked the inside.... foolish me
8. roof drip rail is rusty at least at the ends
Ugly
The pictures I received of the car told me it was in need of a freshen up.
1. the paint is not the original silver blue Y code. It is old and worn.
2. the exterior trim except stainless is going to have to be replaced
3. an interior kit is required
4. the engine bay is as attractive as the outside
Good
1. its a diamond in the rough, I think anyway
2. I have a lot of parts shipped with the car ready to go
3. its a 2 owner original and I have a file of receipts showing the journey of the car with 2nd owner starting in 1970
4. it hasn't been messed with, not that I can see
5. the lines are straight and I cant identify any accident damage, certainly the receipts and lady I purchased it of confirmed this
6. its a reasonably solid base to work from
7. I have the original widow sticker... its the next best thing to the Marti report we 64-66 owners cant get
8. frame rails and rockers appear solid and straight
I was aiming to try and roll this in 12 months but all of that changes with the loss of my employment. I will take it as I go. Here it is in all of its glory.... or not so

(PRAYER) Oh thank you Wild Turkey American Honey & Cola in those small thin bottles, for giving me the strength to act like a half wit, and say stupid things at inappropriate times, semi-anonymously, on a public forum.
Amen.
Amen.

Re: Cruzn66
i'd say its more likely to be restomod, but I wont be going crazy. I will try to stay true to the window sticker but adding the things I like eg styled steel wheels. I will restore the console and original rally pac. Pete will get the pleasure of adding twin exhaust and as the manifolds look pretty crusty I might opt for headers.Foresight wrote:What are the plans for it mate? Concours, restomod...eleanor.....
I'm focussing on cosmetics before I look at suspension and running gear. Thats about it for the moment. Cant plan much more detail without a job, gotta feed 4 kids and meet the mortgage first.
First step is to strip it down and take stock.
