Priscilla Queen of the Desert project(68 fastback project)

Post by gotohellgadafi »

:dance2: :dance2: for those that don't know, I've purchased a 68 fastback project from Port Hedland and it has just arrived tucked away in my garage.

Sorry to all the die-hard stang lovers, but this will be turned into another Eleanor to accompany my first Eleanor project completed two? years ago by the one and only Mr.St.Marys Prestige!

At this stage, not being in a hurry to complete this project, I'm looking at tackling some of the work myself (stop laughing Steve 8O ).
Obviously, the harder stuff like restoration etc will be dealt with by the pros. but I'm going to tackle stripping it down etc, and first thing is that I'm looking at what is recommended for paint stripping i.e which company to take it to, what's better, media blasting or dipping etc..?

Photos coming soon......

Drop it into Steve's and walk away Bas. Come back in 12 months and pick it up. Easy!

Great so far.
If I ever did another car , it would be a 68 fastback.
Watching with interest.

Personally I wouldn't dip it.
Dipping will remove from places that you will never get to again.

Kerry has a mobile media blasting guy that he uses.

Didnt know there was such a thing as mobile blasting, i guess that saves money in towing and all that, by the looks of it you'll probably be replacing some skins and the rest from the e kit so that leaves the skeleton. Might wanna suss out what ur replacing first so they know what to quote you on. From memory steve and kerry said you wouldnt do the roof or door skins as it wil cause issues if not done properly (warping or similar) and to use paint stripper in those areas .. so i guess that leaves you with the frame and engine bay etc.. im no expert but my knowledge if understoof correctly have been from the experts after lots of discussions.

Congrats btw!! i think blasting in your garage is the least of the tennants worries when you eventually have 2 snarling beasts!
